I can't remember the name of this book...help?

Post by LuLu »

There's a serial killer who leaves bite marks on his victims (it's not red dragon btw) and the story is about the detective trying to solve the case. Later in the book there appears to be a copycat with the same M.O. as the first serial killer, but the copycat is missing teeth so the police think it's not the same person. It turns out it is the same person, he just takes out his bridge/dentures/false teeth when he does the copycat killings. He also wears black hair dye I believe when he does the copycat killings to hide his good looks. The serial killer also has a mom that begs for money in the subway if I remember right. And she hoards newspapers or something. And in the final showdown in the book I think the detective/fbi agent's partner or friend gets stabbed. I could be completely screwing up the story but I read it 10 years ago or better so it's a little fuzzy. Please help???

It sounds a bit like Scaredy Cat by Mark Billingham, but there are a couple of things in your description that I don't quite remember.

Sorry if thats the wrong one.

Actually, I am just adding another request for help for a book I can't remember the name of.

It is a personal account of woman who goes through a divorce moves to a small village in Cananda near the coast. It is about her life in Cananda not her divorce. I remember her gardening and describing the howling winds during storms that she thought would bring down her house. She has an adult son who lives in New York and she changed the name of the town to mask the identity. I am pretty sure the time frame is the 1970s.

Anyone recognize it? I wasn't impressed with it when I first read it and gave it away but thought about it again and again over the years and wouldn't mind giving it another go.

Thanks
