One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich (SETTING)

Post by sweet26 »

Hi

Has anyone read this book. "One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich."

It is a very tough book to understand and all the literature involved behind it.

I don't seem to understand the Setting in "One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich."

does anyone have some resources or any thoughts about the setting in this novel. It takes place in Russia (Siberia) and is a cold weather.

thanks for the help :D

The story takes place in an anonymous Soviet gulag. Although the text mentions repeatedly teh 104th squad, inquiry into this denotation only leads to information on this book. I think Solzhenitsyn meant for this gulag to ba a symbolic representation of all gulags and Soviet oppression in general rather than a specific place in the real world.
