Is the book I'm thinking of "The Nausea?"

Post by Invidious »

Hello everyone, I'm new here, I'll be heading to the introduction area soon.

I'm thinking of a book, I'm fairly positive that it was titled "The Nausea." and it was a book translated from French.

If you have read this book please tell me if you remember the following parts of the book.

If you haven't read the book, and this is the book I'm thinking of, then beware

SPOILERS.
~~~
In the book I remember the main character being at his mother's funeral and describing the quality of life she had at her nursing home I think. He watched the people talking around him in at the funeral and thought to himself something similar to "it was hard to believe they were really people at all."
There was a part in the story where the main character was with his girlfriend and she asked him if he loved her and he said no. I believe it was around this time that he asked her to marry him.
~~~

I never finished the book, and I think I really should since I began reading it when I was thirteen. It seems sad to let so many years go by before finishing a book. I'm doubting the title of the book because when I go online to read it the plot seems vastly different than what I remember. Perhaps my view point was limited by my age, but I can't imagine how the plot in my head could be so starkly different than the plot given online. Thank you for any help whoever replies.

I think the book you are thinking of is The Outsider by Albert Camus. :)
