Help with Piking Summer Reading...

Post by ksyankeefan »

So, we received the summer reading list for my AP English Literature class next year, and was looking for some advice on which ones to (or not to) choose.

We have to choose 2 of the following:

Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass—Frederick Douglass
A Farewell to Arms—Ernest Hemingway
All the Pretty Horses—Cormac McCarthy
The Red Badge of Courage—Stephen Crane
Black Boy---Richard Wright
The Crucible---Arthur Miller
Ethan Frome---Edith Wharton

Anything you know about any of these books would help. Thanks!

I hear that All the Pretty Horses is a good book, and I thought that The Road by McCarthy was an awesome book.

The only book I have actually read was The Crucible which was pretty good. A good look the craziness of the Salem Witch Trials.

Read Stephen Crane if you like writing. And sentences. And irony.

All the Pretty Horses is an easy read. Pretty badass too.

Read The Crucible.

Reading Hemingway takes practice, but it's more than worth it once you know how to tackle it.
