I need a Book Gift Recomendation Please

Post by rwyarbrough »

I have a daughter who will be starting college next year. She is majoring in English. I would love to buy her a very special book for Christmas this year that she would treasure the rest of her life. Can anyone recommend such a book please?

Thanks,

Funny that you posted this...I just had a close friend refer me to a book coming out in Feb. called The Conjure Man written by author Peter Bellis. I'm a college student, and it had captured me in as soon as I read sample chapters on the web site. Good Luck and Happy Readings!

Gifting a book is the most excellent and ideal gift for an occasion like Christmas, at any age. You can gift your sweetheart daughter The Twilight Saga Collection by Stephenie Meyer or Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen, she will love to treasure in her personal library.

I think you should choose smth very classical like Pride and Prejudice by Austen or Jane Arie by Bronte. I think for a girl it would be a good idea.

I agree, if your daughter is majoring in english I am assuming that she would have a liking for the classics. If it was me I would love a nice hardcover classic that I could treasure in my collection. In fact in my collection of books my favourite would have to be a lovely old hardcover copy of "To kill a Mockingbird". :)

Mabey you should try giving her a script of a play you both enjoy, you can get her a Script of a play and take her to go see it with you. That would sound like a fun gift if my mother gave it to me. Good luck happy holidays

Chicken Soup for the Teenage Soul is an excellent book for every teenager, and anyone who wants to understand what problems teenagers are facing these days. This book contains stories that range from incredibly funny to sad and serious, but yet uplifting. All teenagers face hardships that have to do with self esteem and fitting in. It is a book that you can go to when you are having problems. I feel that every teenager can relate to this book.

Could I suggest a book of poetry ... I have a couple on my shelf for years and though I don't consider myself a big poetry fan I find I dip in and out of them from time to time. Your reaction to a poem can change so much as you go through life and it can be like meeting up with an old friend when you come across a poem you recognize from your youth.

I would suggest finding out what her favorite book is and getting a signed first addition.
"The world has been printing books for 450 years, and yet gunpowder still has a wider circulation. Never mind! Printer's ink is the greater explosive: it will win." - Christopher Morley, "The Haunted Bookshop."

Thank you everyone for all the suggestions.

I think finding a signed first edition of a great classic or her favorite book sounds like the way to go. She is very fond of Jane Austen. Also. as a additional gift. I think a book of poetry would be very nice.

Thanks again for the help.

I know you've closed out, but... I am a reader (read all the time) and I carry a journal with me. Maybe you can consider getting her a leather journal and write an inscription in the front from you.

In this busy digital era, perhaps the book "Things You Can See Only When You Slow Down" could be a good recommendation.
