YES I'm adamant about it. I'm now desperately trying to buy A Game of Thrones and The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo because I have Book 2 of both series. AHAHA.

For some series it's okay, but for the most part I'm OCD about it - I hate to read books out of order because I'm too afraid I'll miss something important.

I guess it depends on the series. Some of them don't necessarily need to be read in order, because, although each one may make references to previous books, they stand alone on their own. Nancy Drew books are a good example of this, as well as some detective series written for adults. Others (like Harry Potter, or Stephen King's Dark Tower series) absolutely have to be read in order the first time because otherwise you would be missing out on a lot (character and plot development for instance). Though of course once you've completed the series reading favorites at random times is fun.

Call it OCD but I read all series in order. If I happen to start a book without realizing it is part of a series, I will stop reading and find the start of the series. The only time I don't is when the book is not available. I know that many book within series are written to stand-alone, but I just feel as if I am missing key points if I haven't read all the previous books first.

I also have to read a series in chronological order. I have always been irritated if I read a book and, in the process, find out is a later book in the series and then have to backtrack.

I love to read books in order. If I happen upon an author that I have not read before, I will search for the first book in the series before reading any of them.

I seem to do that a lot. I find a book that looks amazing and I buy it. Once I have finished it I get the seek peak into book number 4 when I have just finished book 3. I have to get the other books to get caught up. It drives me nutty. There are moments that I have bought a few books out of a series and just read the ones that I have. It depends on how I feel at the moment. If I want to read out of order or just wing it. Depends on how good the books are. But, I always find the ones I am missing to get caught up. :)

It is a must. I have to see how it all ends. And then I still feel there should be another book after the final one if I feel there could be more.

I nearly always read books in a chronological order however there have been cases when I have not due to the fact I ofter purchase books from second-hand shops based on the bulb/premise/first chapter.

I do. It makes no sense to me to read them out of order. I would be lost.

Yes! I absolutely must read a series in order! The only time I didn't was while reading The Chronicles of Narnia, and I regret it now because I was so confused by the end.
