I prefer owning, only because I do take my time reading and libraries don't give you enough time allow to rent the book. And I am too horrible about returning

For fiction, for the most part, I like to use the library because I tend (generally) not to read the same piece of fiction twice. With regards to works of reference or select non-fiction, they tend to find a permanent home on my shelf. I do however also like to keep a log record of the books I have read as a stand in for the copies that I return to the circulation shelves.

Owning. Though when it comes to a new author or series I don't mind going to the library or borrowing from a close friend

I really like getting a book from the library. I don't usually like to read a book more than once and this way I can save some money as well as let others read the book too. However, if I really like it and think I might read it again, I will buy a copy.

My only problem with library books is that not everyone treats them well and they can have broken around or torn pages. That just makes me so mad! How can someone be so disrespectful to something that can bring such joy?

Definitely owning. I love idea of owning a crispy new book. I also like highlighting certain quotes, and you can't do that in a library book.

Although borrowing seems like the smarter option since it's FREE, I am guilty of owning almost all the books I've read. And yes, my shelves are overflowing. However, my books are like my children! They are my most prized possessions.

We have a library in our home, so (obviously) I enjoy owning and reading books more than once. Unfortunately, they do take up a lot of space, so I also enjoy keeping books on my eReader. I would only get a book at the library if it was for reference or one that I am absolutely sure I will not want to read again. Old books are like old friends -- sometimes you want to read them again!

I like to own my own books, but I'm pretty cheap, so I would have to really love the book to go out and buy it. I usually just check books out, my librarian is pretty lenient about the returning of books. I guess she knows, I will always return them, or I have really good excuses to why I was late!!

I love books and I seem to have bookshelves full of them in every room in the house. Not that I'm a great 'rereader' - although there are some books I really ought to read again. But I also love libraries. There's something about the feel of them that I really like. I love to wander around the shelves, looking at all the different genres, and reading umpteen blurbs. I do have a library card and still use it. The librarians are so friendly and helpful nowadays - totally different to when I was young (Way back in the Dark Ages!).

Own. I have collected books my entire life. My bookshelves are overflowing with books. I do use the library on occasion but I prefer to own my books. I like the smell and the feel of a book in my hands and a library book can smell quite funky!

I have to own my books. Some books I can read in a weekend, other books can take me 3 months. It depends entirely on the book and what else is going on in my life. Somebody telling me how long I have to read something isn't something that appeals to me.
