Re: Do you feel it is rude to interrupt someone while readin

I read ALL the time and it seems that my family sees my book and suddenly find 10 million reasons to talk to me. For the most part I am able to not loose my place, but I do find it rude. I read to escape to a new world, where my worries no longer exist.

I hate to be interrupted. Depending on how bad my day was, dragging myself out of my own personal fantasy land can be quite difficult. However, if someone doesn't interrupt me while reading I would never get anything done.

It depends. I am always reading, so if my fiance interrupts me I don't find it rude since he would otherwise not be able to talk to me. But if I haven't read much in a while and indicate that I want some time to read, then it is rude to be interrupted.

I think it is because there are people like my grandmother and I who get so into a book that we make a mad face when we want to read more.

I don't like people interrupting my reading, but depending on the reason, it isn't always rude. I read a lot, sometimes for hours. If my children need permission for something or have a different question, they'll have to interrupt me eventually.

Yes I do. It interrupts the flow and is very frustrating. Sometimes though it can't be helped. If I'm reading something that requires extra concentration like copy editing, then I have to close the door on everyone and turn off the phone.

Yes, I do believe it is rude in a sense like if you are on public transportation. One of The reasons people bring a book to read is because it is a distraction to keep them from interacting with others or they just want to escape in their minds to the place of the character they are reading about. To interrupt the person and keep them from enjoying their solitude in reading can be an annoyance. It's like how you feel if you have your headphones on listening to good music and someone keeps trying to carry on a conversation with you.

Excellent example. I never saw people interrupting someone with both plugs in their ears or a headphone.

Yes, It's nice occasionally to have peace and quiet and also it may interrupt a special intriguing moment within a book.

Yes it is rude. My husband likes to interrupt me and then when I think he is finished with his thought, I start to read again and he interrupts again. I think he actually enjoys doing this to me.

I would love to have a sign like that as well! After putting the kids to bed at night I like to sit in my room and read while I have a glass of wine, but my husband thinks that is the perfect time to come talk to me. He isn't a reader so he doesn't get it...

l believe it is incredibly rude to interrupt someone when they arereading.lm an avid reader so i understand how it feels when you are reading a very good book and you are really into your story and your mind is like you are in the story yourself as a witness to what is happening and all of sudden
someone interrupts your sense of thought. That is very annoying. so yes I believe its rude to interrupt someone when they are reading.
