how many books do you own?

Wow! I thought I had a lot, I have a little over 400. Whenever I feel like it's getting out of hand I make a "goodbye box" and take the ones I can live without to a local bookstore to donate or trade. I don't have enough bookshelf room for thousand...yet!

The amount of books I own at a time fluctuates. Sometime I trade them, sell them or give them to charity fundraisers. I own about 20 books that I would never part with and have a few more that I want to eventually own. Of these '20' they are books that I have read, re-read and recommend to other readers the most!

A few dozens are mine personally, but I believe our family altogether own well over a couple of thousand - most of us enjoy reading

I probably have about 20-30 books in my collection and I just go to the library most of the time. I like the idea of someday having a library/study with lots and lots and lots of books but at the same time I'm sort of afraid of bookshelves with lots of books since I was in Borders with books flying at here, there and everywhere during the 6.3 earthquake.

That would be scary, maybe you should stay with e books.

haha yes I'm sticking to ebooks and my small collection that is on my floor so that it won't rain down on me. When these aftershocks are over I will start building my collection and will be brave enough to put them on shelves.

Yes,that was a bad quake you guys had. We get a few tremors here but nothing serious as yet. Altho we had a tsunami warning last year so my books could get washed away, probably me with them too so I may carry my e book stick on a chain around my neck.

I have about 100 books, but have gone through MANY more than that over the years.

I try to keep the clutter down at home, so every couple years I put a box together and donate a bunch to the local public library. That way, if I ever want to re-read them, they are accessible (and free--I don't have to re-purchase them). I only keep my very favorite books here at home--otherwise, I would get crowded out of my own home.

Typically I have well over a thousand (the spare bedroom and dining room are lined with book shelves!). Of these about 400 are reference books that I reference often. About 400 are good quality hardbacks and the rest are paperbacks where there is considerable churn as they get passed around the family.

LOL, I thought, you have read those thousand already. You do the right thing. Stop buying and start reading.

Wow for the past month I have been collecting books like never before. My nana just moved into a rest home so I inherited The Hobbit, Lord of the Rings and George Orwell collection from her. Plus I bought books for study, some Roald Dahl for my son and just impulsively bought The Great Gatsby and the Phillipa Greggory books off an auction website and I'm sure I've bought a couple more in the past month. It's bad how much I've spent on books alone... but I guess the good thing is that I'm not spending my money on junk food!

If I keep going this way there will be no room to move around in my house haha

I've given away so many books to the friends of the library that it is impossible to calculate how many I've owned in my llife. I don't treasure books themselves, I treasure the words within the books and how they are put together, so the book as an object does not hold much sentimental value. Of course, I do have a few treasured ones that I wll never rid myself of, Like Shelby Foote's trilogy of the Civil War.

I have some favorites I have read over a few times, Collected Works Of H. P. Lovecraft, the Sherlock Holmes stories, Lord Of The Rings but mostly I get rid of books after I read them.
