Most of the time music distracts me because I'll want to jump up and sing along to the words

No. I love music too much, and it's hard for me to keep it in the background.

I absolutely cannot have music in the background; I can barley have anyone having a full conversation in the background. Unless I am at a very and extremely interesting scenario going on in the book, it is hard for me to concentrate with distractions.

Depends on what I'm reading! If it's something light, then having music in the background is really enjoyable. However, if I'm trying to plow through dense material, then the music will just be a distraction.

YouTube is a great resource for relaxing, non-invasive reading music. Classical, new age, nature sounds... one search and I've been able to find countless playlists of great reading music.

It depends on what I am reading. I can listen to music as long as it's not too loud while reading and still retain what I've read but I can get distracted if I'm not interested in what I am reading. A good book can cause me to not notice when a bomb goes off, so it wouldn't matter.

I will usually don't have music on while I read, but sometimes I will listen to a local radio station, or listen to my Vocaloids CD or Imagine Dragons.

If I am in a place that I need to block everyone and everything out I do listen to music while I read. I feel that that is my alone time and I don't need any distracts while I read. I can listen to country, rock, pop and hip hop it does not really matter as long as it is loud and I can't hear anything going on around me.

I occasionally listen to music while I read. I don't really pay attention to it it is mostly there for background noise. If I am really into a book I will not listen to music while I read because it distracts me.
