Re: Reading over sleeping

I make the choice of reading over sleeping at least three times a week, and often more. One of my favorite things is when I am reading a book that is so engaging that it entices me to lose sleep.... that's the good stuff.

If I am suffering from insomnia, which is often, I choose an audible book. It doesn't cure the insomnia, but it does prevent going through the frustration of tossing, turning, and looking at the clock.

Totally!! :D I used to do that before I got married.. Now that I have 2 toddlers who kept me waking up every few hours of the night, I need the sleep and I'll squeeze in some readings in the spare time :)

I would love to but my parent would find out and be mad.

I often choose reading over sleeping. It always starts with "just one more chapter" and ends with me finishing the book at an ungodly hour.

I have done that a lot of times. The most recent would be when I was reading the Wheel of Time series. I was so caught up with finishing the series that I would end a book and start the next one immediately. Only when the rising sun started to interfere with my reading, did I notice that I hadn't slept the night. It was a bad day at work.

Now I am more careful.

Yes, because I get immersed in the story and cannot wait to found out what happens!

I end up reading the same line on a page over and over and that's when I know I've gotten dedicated to a book

Used to all the time before I got married...now, I tend to read whenever I get the time....be it while eating or before drifting to sleep (after putting my little one to bed). Can't do all night'er's anymore.....at least at present.

I haven't stayed up all night reading though I've wanted to sooooo many times. What used to happen is that I would wake up sometime during the night with a book on my face and the light still on. Now that I read books on my laptop, I wake up with the laptop sleeping on my chest. Many times, the story runs right into my dreams.

I've had that experience with a few books, the ones that come to mind are the Harry Potter books I read in high school.

Absolutely! If I get truly engrossed in a book then sleep becomes secondary. In fact, I'll often just read until I fall asleep with the book in my hand

Sometimes it's SO hard to stop reading, especially if you're at a big action scene or near the final part of the book. You know you will be tired tomorrow but at the same time you just don't care and want to keep reading!
