I crack it enough so that the book will stay open when I am in the middle but no more. I want to make sure the pages stay safe :)

Generally my books look brand new. I am careful with them but not anal about it. I rarely lent out my hard covered books. Now I mostly have Kindle books so not a problem.

I try not to crack the spines on my books but when it happens I just accept it.

Because we don't like cracked spines, but cracks happen, and because it's shame to keep books in the closet and not lent them, check this guide on how to open a book without cracking the spine:

I have tried it and works

I'm very careful not to open my books too wide so that I can avoid cracking the spine. It probably doesn't make any difference since the spine is under the cover, but it's a pet peeve of mine.

I don't deliberately crack the spine on books, but if it happens, I don't worry about it. The books that are my favorites all have cracked spines from being read so often. I just figure it's a sign they are well loved.

No way! And I use a special way to open my books for the first time so that no harm comes upon my babies!
