I'm all for gifting books, especially if I've read it and it impacted me. I don't randomly give them out, but I really think about that person's personality before I gift it. I also have to remember that many of my friends are readers like I am, so I'm cautious with this. If I gift a book, it's meaningful. I truly believe they will get something out of it.

I gift a lot of books but usually it’s because they are on their wish list. I think the only person I would give a book of my choosing to would be my best friend. Books feel so personal to me.

This is a tough question, a lot of friends and family know that I like to read so I do get books as gifts. I keep an amazon wish list so that usually helps people know what I'm looking for. However, I have received book gifts that I felt obligated to read but did not really enjoy. For the most part I would vote yes, but only from people who have gotten to know my preferences.

I'm highly careful. Before gifting a book, I make sure that person reads the genre I am going to give away, and they don't have one already. It's like neckties. You don't gift neckties to anybody who hates wearing suits.

When I find out that a gifted book will be appreciated by a person, absolutely! On the flip side, when I hear the response to the casual question if they like to read or not, "I can't stand reading." Then no, won't waste the money in that department.

It depends on the person, I would personally love book presents but I would love the option to choose the book myself, so gift card. A friend of mine for instance always gets me audible credits or Amazon vouchers to buy books on my birthday!

Even if I don't like the book I receive as a gift, the thought that someone loves me enough to buy one for me is all I need <3

Yes, I would definitely accept books as gifts. I love collecting books and that would make me happy to have additional books to read and to add to my collection.

I already have a friend of mine who loves reading. As a matter of fact, she is more enthusiastic about reading than I do. I plan to gift her a best-selling book anytime from now. So, of course, yes, I will give a book as a gift.

Books are lovely and romantic ways to show affection especially if the one you are giving them too is also an avid lover of books. If that's the case, then go on to do so because personally, I will give someone a book as a gift anyday.

It was nice to read everyone's thoughts - I might have to rethink giving books as gifts! I was so surprised people were so reticent to receive books!

I really enjoy giving and receiving books under all circumstances. We all have endless TBR's we could never hope of devouring. My TBR actually reminds me of that boy who is trying to eat that rich chocolate cake in Matilda sometimes - too rich and overwhelming to face. A gift card would certainly be helpful in acquiring some of those must-haves we've been dying for. But personally, I would much rather a book I didn't like than a gift card. I think what others read is such an insight into them, and presumably if they are giving me a gift I have some affiliation with them. So, the book becomes a bonding opportunity, regardless of my appreciation of the content I feel like I've gotten insight into someone I care about.

Funny story - my grandfather gave me a book once for my <14th birthday. First book he'd ever given me. Turns out it was a zesty romance with infidelity and all sorts of...interesting...spice. I asked him about it, nonchalantly, since I assumed he had no idea what he'd given me.

His response?

"I asked the bookstore for an adult women's book, because you read such big books!"

Adorable!

If the book deals with a topic that may be of interest to the person to offer, or if I think the book will help somehow. In other words, You gift a book under special circunstances.

I love giving books as gifts and mostly enjoy the books I receive as gifts as well. Great choice for a gift in my opinion.
