secret history by donna tartt is brilliant and i read that for the first time when i was about 19

If you're not opposed to historical romance novels then I would recommend The Wedding by Julie Garwood. This has a great love story, and the story that surrounds the couple is great as well. Also its hilarious while still having great touching scenes. Sorry not a lot of suspense though. I would definitely say check out romance novels. Its an often derided genre but more varied than people realize.
