Re: Does Page Count Affect Your Decision To Read A Book Or N

Post by Fran »

Would make no difference to my decision to read a book but it would decide when I'd read it.
E.G. I picked up Ken Follet's Winter of the World in hardback from the library - I'll definitely be reading it but I don't think I have the muscles to have it accompany me commuting, it will have to be a downtime at home read. :)

Page count is important for reference. I think of reading any book as an investment of my time. No matter what I want to consider how much time will be consumed if I took on the task of reading this. Does this effect my decision to read a book? Not necessarily. Page count is important to know what you're getting yourself into. For a true lover of literature it should be more about content than anything otherwise.

Page count absolutely influences my choices when reading. If I find myself torn between 2 equally interesting books, I will always chose the longer of the two in order to prolong the pleasure of the read. Long live fat books!
You can't get a cup of tea big enough or a book long enough to suit me.

For the most part I don't care about page count. I usually like them to be over 100 pages, but I've been known to really like some shorter stories. It just depends on the book so I read them all and find out!

honestly for me it depends on the time of year. during the summers when i have more going on, i like to read a lot of shorter books. but when i find myself stuck indoors during the winter a like getting caught up in the longer ones, since im usually reading for longer each time i pick up the book

If the summary of the book manages to catch my attention and retain it for more than a few pages then the total number of pages of the book doesn't matter. Unless i am reading to write a review and i have a deadline to meet, this fact i have just realized a few days back when i started book reviewing ;)

No..

Some of the best books I've read have been 1000+ pages and others have barely been over 100 (although that is a much rarer occurrence)..

I wouldn't pass over a book because of the page count, but I do prefer long books. I hate when a good book ends, so the longer, the better.

No.
But I don't usually get enough time to read much longer books.

It affects my choice to finish reading a book but not to start it. I tried reading 1Q84 by Haruki Murakami but I wasn't as interested in the beginning and seeing the length of the book I decided to quit while I was ahead.

The number of pages of a book does not affect my decision to purchase a book. Although, I agree. Some short page novels don't feel like they are really completed.

I typically don't read any novels less than 200 pages.

Depends on the day. Sometimes I want to get into a book that's going to take a little longer to read and sometimes I want one I know I will finish at a decent time because I know I have a habit of not putting down a book until I physically cannot read any longer.

Usually doesn't but if I'm on a time crunch, I usually fit in a small read instead of a massive novel.
