I just prefer the tactile feel of a book, and audio books are generally quite slow, so I prefer the real thing.

My mind gets sidetracked with audio books and I lose track of the story.

I would have to go with real, paper books because, well, nobody can mimic the tiny voice inside my head and neither would they be able to get the voices of the characters the way I imagined them.

I've only tried an audio book once and I just couldn't get into it and found myself not paying attention. Whereas whenever I am reading a real book I am totally engrossed in the story! It is much preferred.

Real thing. I've listened to a few audiobooks while working because sounds help me concentrate but usually the person who recorded the story doesn't do the story justice.

I've never actually tried an audiobook, but I think I'd prefer the real thing.

I love reading the actually book, I get easily distracted listening to the audiobooks, though I do like it when someone reads to me. I don't know why I'm like that, lol. But yes, I can understand the value of audiobooks, and how its very helpful but I prefer the real thing.

I actually like both. The neat part is the convenience to be doing something else while still reading a book with the audiobooks. However it is very meditative and therapeutic to be able to sit quietly and read a great book. Every type has a place and I appreciate both.

I definitely prefer to read books, but like you said, audiobooks are very handy in the car! Once I checked out Nathaniel Hawthorne's House of the Seven Gables audiobook from the library, but I kept finding my mind wandering while the speaker was reading.

I'm not a fan of talk radio and have always been apprehensive about audio-books for that reason.

Audio books on a long car journey are great but if the kids are in the car then I have to be careful what I put on in case there are any 'bad words'. Sometimes the reader isn't the best person for the job as they don't impart any excitement in the story as a build up happens but they are good for passing time especially if driving at night. Otherwise I am real thing reader.

I prefer the real hardcover book, but occasionally I read online too. I haven't tried audio books, except for some audio tests I had to listen to, which proved my theory that I won't understand anything if I tried with a whole story. I guess I get easily distracted and since I have a strong visual memory I'd prefer to see the text in order to understand and moreover imagine what's happening.

Nothing replaces the real book - but the audio book does have its place in my life. When I have a really tedious chore to do like ironing, weeding, tidying unspeakably messy cupboards, or even sewing on a machine an audio book gets me through.
