What annoys me the most is loud noise. Most sounds I can tune out and just concentrate on my book, but several sounds I find to be very bothersome. For example, we used to live in an apartment building and the neighbor next door insisted on playing really loud music all day long. After that, it wasn't only the neighbor disrupting my reading, but construction work was started on a building right next to my window. Then of course there was that rock band down the street, that were having rehearsals and kept playing the same song over and over. Thankfully, we moved to a house on a more quiet part of town. Other than this I don't really get any disruptions. My family is very respectful of someone reading, especially since both my mom and grandma really like to read, so they know not to interrupt someone.

I enjoy chatter and white noise while I'm reading. Often I'll put on music while reading. What annoys me most, since I read at home, is the door bell going off since it's usually someone trying to sell me something, get me to take a survey or join their church.

I hate it when the phone rings and I'm in the middle of something good on the page. I get nutty when the kids keep asking me silly questions, when they can see I am in the middle of reading. Then I have to go back and reread to pick up the story where I left off.

In the 'is it rude' thread someone mentioned that nonreaders think they are doing you a favor. They think people only read when really bored.

I know it's the case, but can't they just ask before interrupting every time? I mean I do enjoy reading, that's why I do it so often... If I would be bored I'd probably start to chat with them, wouldn't I? I think this is definitely the most annoying disruption.

Phone calls. I have the same reaction as being woken early from a nap. Dark rage.

People trying to talk to me while they can see that I am reading. And then each time they interupt my huffing gets louder but they still don't get the message! I should just put a sign up that says "Reading, do not disturb!"

Having to change trains RIGHT THEN. Even if I am in the middle of a sentence, I have no choice but to stop where I am and get off the train. If I don't, disaster! And tardiness is something I would wish to avoid.

Incessant and completely pointless and overly obnoxious talking. The kind when they are super loud and know that they should definitely tone it down but just don't care enough to do so.

I do most of my readings at home so there are few disruptions to consider.
What disrupts me from my reading is the call of nature. I usually drink liters of water daily so it really annoys me going back to the rest room from time to time.

Mine is definitely school, because school means I have to go to bed early on most nights. Ugh. It's not often a problem, though; I'm really easily distracted regardless, so I usually don't mind if I have to stop reading to go to bed. Sometimes, though, I'll be really into what I'm reading and then it's the single most annoying thing ever. Ugh.

When my little sister wants to talk to me. If I'm not responding, you would think she'd get the hint. The worst thing is, she only wants to talk to me about television shows.
