Just finished 'Noah's Compass' by Anne Tyler

A man goes to bed in his new apartment and wakes up in a hospital bed. What happened & how did he get to the hospital. This is the first book by Anne Tyler that I have read, and while it's no thriller, I found it a surprisingly intriguing read. It's an interesting analysis of how people manage to avoid life & it's demands and complications. I've added her to my list so that I can follow up on some more of her books. I would rate it 7/10

The String of Pearls: A Romance

3.5/5 maybe woulda been a 4 or more outta 5 if not for the movie they made bout it.

It was cool movie but somewhat distorted the book for me...

Just finished I Hope They Serve Beer in Hell and in found it a vile and trashy waste of paper, and also very hard to finish. The book from start to finish is a diary of one young man and his various adventures in the world of oral sex, drunken games, practical jokes and disease spreading, he made me sick and this is a guy who graduated with first class honors from law school. I only bought the book as it looked like something different and was a New York best seller.

3 out of 10.

Na nothing like that at all ... I put my comments on the last book read thread & I'm still damned if I can figure why it got the Booker.

Finished 'The Death of a Mafia Don' by Michele Giuttari last night.
Chief Superintendent Ferrara is a superb character & the city of Florence can only be described as a magnificent backdrop. Gets a 9/10 from me. :D

I've just finished, last week, "We Owe You Nothing the collected Punk Planet Interviews", I've been reading it for over a year. Great bunch of interviews from many punk bands and people like Jello Biafra and Ian Macay to Noam Chomsky. Really great stuff if you were ever in to the scene.

Just finished re-reading "Under the Dome" - Stephen King. The second time around I enjoyed it a little better. I felt very let down by the ending the first time I read it, but this time it just seemed to "gel" better with the book. As always right from the start of the novel the reader is grabbed by some explosive opening chapters. Planes and trucks being blown up, arms being chopped off and the occasional wild animal cut in half. The strength of the book, as with all of King's books, is the characters. The characters are a joy to read. King is the master of bringing his characters to life. Because the characters are so good we can forgive what is in the end a slightly disappointing ending. I would give it a 7.5/10. :)

A fantastic read every bit as enthralling as 'The Interpretation of Murder'
