I can't concentrate on what I am reading if there is music, I start singing and find myself not even taking in what I am reading.

No because for me it is pointless . When I read and listen to music because I either block out the music or listen and digest every word in my veins.

I like to use the "white noise" app if my hubby's television is too loud. My favorite is "air conditioning."

I tried to, but when I did, I always find myself blanking out in the story.

This is my new obsessions when reading, combined with either RainyMood or a Rain Sounds app on my phone: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8MUFW8fhnvo

I find it really beautiful and non-intrusive, so I can focus on the words on the page but still get to enjoy the music.

I have tried to read with music several times, but it doesn't work for me. I think this is because reading and listening to music are basically my two favourite hobbies and I do not think they should be put together. This is probably for a few reasons, but manly because of the distraction it creates when I mix two things I love together.

Never. I'm too passionate about both. I read best in silence, which is a rare gift for me with a rambunctious 3 year old running my house!

I listen to soundscapes, classical music, jazz (Not smooth jazz. That's horrible), or coffee house music. It can't be too heavy or upbeat or it'll break my concentration. I just put one of those genres on and pop my earphones in. It depends on what I'm reading though. Sometimes I'll be so into a book that I can only take silence.

I could never personally listen to music while i read. Though i find i get a headache and become very distracted if i don't have background noise. Like a fan or something of the sort.

I personally like to instrumental music when I'm read. If there's singing going on in the background it would be hard for me to concentrate on the book because my mind is also try listen to the lyrics. My only expectation is when I'm listening to a Sade album. Love that woman so much : )

I can't concentrate with music going when I'm reading. However, I don't have any trouble blocking out people and their conversations or whatever they're doing.
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I--
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference

No,I personally don't because it distracts me and makes me think about the sound of the music and how pretty the music is. I just can't;I know some people can.

Sometimes I will listen to music when I'm reading but for the most part I like to read in silence. When I was still in school I would listen to my Ipod so I couldn't hear everyone else chatting or whatever and just zone out and read. I used it as a way to relax after along day at school.

No, I can't concentrate if there's music on. Sometimes I can do ambient music if it's very subtle, like yoga music, but even that usually just clutters my head. As a child I was absolutely amazing at tuning out noise - I could sit in the living room surrounded by my seven family members and be utterly immersed in my book - but now I pretty much need silence.
