I have to have some sort of noise in the background. If my kids are awake and at home I listen to them or the TV that seems to be on none stop. If they are not home I will listen to music or turn a show on that I have seen for back ground noise. :)

Ahhh.. :eusa-naughty: I can't handle that. It is too distracting for me. I'll end up turning it off. I love peace and quiet when I'm reading. It makes it easier to imagine the scenes and characters of the book while I'm reading.

I do. But sometimes I prefer not to, especially if the book is so good that it requires my full attention.

Yes, I find that if there is something else going on in the room, I can pay attention more to what I am doing. It also works when I grade, work on the computer, or do housework. Even when I am alone in the house, I usually turn on the TV or the radio just to have some back ground noise.

I prefer silence when I read, but if the book is interesting enough I can completely tune out all sounds. It drives my boyfriend crazy because he will have a whole conversation with me and then realize I didn't hear any of it lol

Generally I prefer total and utter silence while I am reading, as typically I am concentrating quite a bit on the gist of whatever I am reading. However, on rare occasion I may listen to classical music, such as Bach concertos, which I happen to love. This can give continuity to help my concentration when my pets are occasionally barking. Usually if I am calm and tranquil though, so are they, fortunately. Listening to music with words is too distracting when I am reading, generally.

Yes, classical music almost exclusively. I prefer the music channel on cable TV because there's no chatter between selections. If I want to know what's playing, it's printed on the screen. This works well unless I'm binge reading and as a result have no idea what's going on in the world around me....

I find that I enjoy listening to music while reading. If I'm really into a book I can tune out anything and anybody around me.

I enjoy country music in the background turned low while I am reading. The music helps me read faster than having complete silence.
