Oh, my gosh, I love fan fiction! I read them when I was in high school. The library near my house didn't get a lot of new books, and the ones that the library had were pretty tired. Books were pretty expensive, too, so I just read fanfics, and I mean a ton of them. I always found them entertaining. I think we'd all be surprised at how well some of the people write. Don't underestimate the authors just because they're using someone else's characters or fictional universe. This may not be the best example, but the author of the "Shades of Grey" series was a fanfic author. Look how well that's turned out for her. I feel like reading other people's writing made me want to write better. Now if only Hollywood would let fanfic writers pen a couple of screenplays....

I had never heard about Fan Fic until joining Tumblr! Everyone on Tumblr is crazily obsessed with it! After reading the Hunger Games trilogy I felt a bit lonely without Katniss so I googled "Hunger Games Fan Fic" At first it was pretty good, but after a while I had to stop reading it because the stories just didn't match up to the real books. I guess if you are a huge fan then Fan Fic will be good!! I'm to in love with Harry Potter to even look up the fan fic!!!

I hadn't known what it was until I read it in an interview about Star Trek. I had no idea it was such a big thing.

Some of my friends like it but I never really got it. I never wanted to read more about characters unless it was written by the author.

Zepher07 wrote:I love fanfiction; both reading and writing it. As an aspiring writer, I find that it is a good way to cut my teeth, so to speak, and improve my skills. I also love to take a story further. We have all had that moment with a series or movie where we want to scream "Give Me More!" Fanfiction really satisfies that hunger. And as you said MandiKenendy, some of them are really well written. I think some writers tend to enjoy it when people want to play with their characters. It means that their book, or whatever, caught their audiences attention and imagination. By the way, I totally do the same thing you do. I see a movie or a tv series and instantly go to fanfiction. I don't do it so much with books though and I'm not really sure why.
P.S. Awesome quote. I love C.S. Lewis.
I'm a writer who likes fun fiction. I have been trying to enter a contest for Harry Potter. Alot of author like to have there Stories acted out and with fun fiction you can act that out a lot more better then when the first story came out.

Hmm...fun fiction. I've never heard of that. Sounds neat. So do you act out scenes from the book or do you write your own scenes?

What some authors do is write out there own scenes and have you as the reader just have fun with it. The book I made is a fun fiction for children they can act it out.

That's great. I can see that working as a great teaching tool.

I posted here Because I like fan fiction as well but I wanted to tell people about fun fiction who knows it may never catch on only very few writers know about it. I think me and two others are the only ones who have books out there that are fun fiction. Fun fiction is written in Contemporary English and is setup as a Stageplay. I like what you said Zepher07 fun fiction would be a great teaching tool I hope it never dies out. anyway sorry for Interrupting this post for fan fiction.

OMG! I Love, love, love fanfic! Just started using Archive of Our Own and I love it. Not quite worked up to writing any of my own but I'm getting there! I have to say I read more about TV shows than about books (mostly Teen Wolf) but have been reading some books lately. It's funny coz it's quite like real books in that you get your favourite authors and then start reading everything they've written which actually then leads you to read books you wouldn't otherwise have read.

I really enjoy fan fiction. Some is really well written and it has the advantage that you go in knowing the characters. It is real escapism and I like the way you can chat about the stories with the rest of the fandom.

I love reading fanfiction, but I hate it when people get the details wrong. I've read a lot of fanfics about Supernatural, referring to the mystery spot episode, and they get the number of months where Dean was dead wrong.

I love reading fanfiction. I only read fanfics about movies and TV series though. So far I never read a book that left me unsatisfied and wanting more than movies and TV series often make me feel. So I tend to go for fanfics to look for more stories.

I used to read fan fictions about one of my favourite bands when I was a lot younger, haha. But I haven't read any in ages, I just kind of lost interest and I don't have as much time anymore. :(
