I often ask my friends if they read a book that they recommend to me. I also read reviews to find books in my color.

I would surf online for new books within a particular genre, look at the description, then ratings, reviews, and recommendations.

Booktubers are a great way to pick up reading lists, but without them I tend to use my knowledge based on authors and if there's a specific genre I'm interested in. That's sad, my wife tends to choose a lot of the books that I read which I'm okay with.

I choose a book depending on my state. Sometimes I am interested in action, sometimes in psychology, sometimes in drama, it totally depends. But I always read a summary to get a feeling if the book even suits me.

Originally, I read books that were recommended to me. Sometimes, I still do. Next, I put a few books in order, reading the least complex book first. My goal was to grasp novels that were written for adults. After I got accustomed to adult books, I branched out to read a wide variety of styles and genres. For example, I started with thrillers, and tried horror once I was ready.

Now, I comb the books that are available to me new and used. I analyze trends in the markets for new books, and collect used books when they are cheap. I categorize the fiction that I want to read by topics, styles, and genres. I categorize the non-fiction that I want to read by dates of publication, topics, and subjects. Finally, I choose from the books that I own by my moods and perspectives.

I read books in groups like in my early years. However, I group books by similarities now. It is a process of simplification. For example, I group similar thrillers and similar histories together. I always consider the next margin of information that I will learn from my books. I sequence books to increase my intellectual return, and learn as much as I can from the books that I have read. I repeat the strategy as necessary.

For me, the title plays a crucial role. If it catches my attention, I skim through the blurb. If the title is boring, I don't look any further.

Most of the time, I'm a very conventional reader and go for the books that are classics or that are famous (thank you BookTok and BookTube). Goodreads is also a favorite of mine when it comes to choosing books. It has really honest and in-depth reviews from readers. Also, it organizes books into lots of helpful categories, so you can choose books most similar to your favourite books. Sometimes though, when I'm feeling adventurous, I might pick up a book based just on the title or the book cover.

I never seem to be at a loss for books I want to read. I come across them all the time in the wild or online or I just get a craving for one of my old favorites. Goodreads is always a great place to search for new books. I have a pretty sizable list of books on there that I want to read.
