Like many others have said: I couldn't possibly choose a favorite book! I might say I have a list of favorites, but I love them all for different reasons. Oftentimes my favorite book will be the one I'm in the midst of reading simply because it's the one I'm connecting with the most at that particular moment in time.

Yes!! I can have a favorite for a while it seems and then suddenly out of nowhere, here comes another. There have been times where I felt kind of bad about "replacing" my favorite book, but then again, I can't help it because the new book is my favorite!

Yes. I prefer to say in my top five because it's a relative thing based on what I've read up to that point. When I just have finished a book I love, I feel for a time it's my favorite but I usually revert back to a previous favorite as time passes.

I tend to view all of my favorite things as temporary. My current favorite book is Watership Down, but it hasn't always been and could change tomorrow.

I love when this happens, although I don't ever really have an absolute favorite, just books I like more than others.

Yes! of course!! when we catch hold of a copy of the book we wanted to read for a long time and start reading it, we suddenly realize that the book was not worth the anticipation you showed for it. Then, because you have waited so long and eagerly for this book and also may have boasted to your friends as this book being on of the best work of the author(even though you might not have read it)., so you change your mind and look forward at only the positive aspects and the positive points and thus change your mind and mould it in favour of the situation and conclude your read as a read which was worth it!

Yes! With that said I will say that I may no longer have one favorite. One of my favorites of all time is an obscure book...Alas, Babylon. This started my enjoyment of Science Fiction and has continued to even now. I read The Secret Garden as a child and still love the book and the movies that have spun off. I have so many translations of the Bible and that definitely makes it a favorite. Favorites in classical literature include Dante's Divine Comedy, Les Miserable', anything by Edgar Allen Poe, Grimm's Fairy Tales... I guess I'll just say I like books and love to read.

I tend to give people a list of my top three favorite books when someone asks for one favorite. I figure that they all represent my taste in literature in different ways, yet together, they reflect who I am as a reader.

Like so many of you said, it's impossible to just choose one. I like knowing that books can, in a way, very gently summarize who we are as readers.

Yes. I am a bit hesitant to confess that I just finished "To Kill a Mockingbird."

It might just be my new favorite.

Although I am like others and have several favorites.

Tastes change. Favorite anything changes. Favorite vacation spots, favorite food, favorite TV show... of course a favorite book would likely change.

I still love the Harry Potter series as much as I used to love it. I have read many great books since I first read the first book of the series but still Harry Potter manages to get me deep into its world. No, I still adore it.

My "favorite book" is always changing, though I have a consistent list of favoriteS (maybe the key is to have plural favorites).

When considering my top book, it's always been "Ulysses" by James Joyce, since I was in my teens. I've made a longtime study of this novel and have several editions (including a 1st edition!), and have re-read and enjoyed the book many times.

But as you say, other books come and go. I remember when I was an impressionable young guy, I thought that "Look Homeward, Angel" was the cat's pajamas, so immersed as I was in neo-platonism. A few years ago I picked up a copy in a used bookstore, took it home, eager to reacquaint myself with this treasured classic. And of course, after a few chapters, I tossed it on the trash heap. It was overblown and preachy and too self-centered. So yes, other "fave" books can vary over the years.

Of course, my own novels are naturally my favorite, ha ha.
