Yes I do...I have to have a little background noise or I find my mind wondering!

I like to listen to instrumental music when I read. Like Explosions in The Sky, God Is An Astronaut, etc. Only loud enough to block out the noise around me.

Usually something soft at a low volume. When it's too loud, it usually distracts me (:

It honestly depends on the situation, whether I listen to music or not. If I am reading for enjoyment in a public place then I will listen to light classical music. At home, where it is quiet, I do not listen to music at all. Books for school, I cannot listen to music with. It really depends on the book and the setting.

I have friends who have to listen to music to read. She needs the noise to concentrate or else she will not finish reading. Is there anyone who feels the same way?

Usually i listen to jazz when I read. Some Coltrane or Miles will do just fine for me.

Yes, but only hip hop because it's the same flavor as the paper of the books.

I do rarely. it really depends on the book and the music. Some things go well with some ambient or classical sounds. Some it just doesn't fit. I like a nice celtic background on occasion while reading too.

I can't; I start listening to the song rather than reading the book.

I always turn on music while I'm reading because I hate complete silence unless I'm going to sleep.

I mostly read in silence. In fact I typically go upstairs with my book if my wife chooses a TV program that I don't want to watch. Although sometimes, late at night, if I am reading poetry or a familiar book, then I may listen to the baroque station in the background. Somehow poetry and good music seem to mingle rather well.

I typically need complete silence. I just returned from vacation expecting to blow through books, but barely got any beach reading accomplished. It was a destination wedding for my cousin, so we were constantly in big groups on the beach, I was so distracted by everyone I finally just gave up! So definitely complete silence.

I absolutely CANNOT read and listen to music at the same time. If there is music, I can't get into the story as well as I'd like to. I also can't read while there is a song stuck in my head - instead of reading, I end up replaying lyrics in my head or the music itself while my eyes move across the same line of the page 500 times, without taking in a word of it.
