As a matter of fact, I don't read because of I want to entertain myself, I read intentionally. Even when reading novels, I read as if it is my exam pack.

I really like reading because it allows me to explore new worlds or possibilities that may not exist in my day-to-day life, but are possible in the frame of the story. It's an exciting thing and it's cool to see what people can come up with through their creativity and imagination. I like to try out different genres just to see what comes out of them.

I like reading simple because I can have my imagination gone wild through words. And the most important thing is that reading makes me calm and relax somehow.

I like reading because it allows me to fully escape my reality for a while, and because it teaches me new things, and because it introduces me to characters and real-life humans I find interesting! And because I can read literally anywhere!

I like reading books because they take me to new places and let me live other lives. Reading makes you smarter and helps you understand others better. It's a fun way to learn and imagine different worlds.

I like nonfiction to learn new things.

I like fantasy to escape the craziness of real life.

I like mystery because it keeps me on the edge of my seat.

Etc.
Yeah. Nonfiction (usually self-help books) to learn, fantasy (fiction in general) to experience a different world other than mine.
You have clearly summed my thoughts. Though the mystery novels in my reading list is not extensive, but its gradually growing.

I believe reading allows me to picture whatever that was written in the book. When I was in elementary school, we had an hour of free time where we could do whatever we wanted in the school library. I came across a book about a mommy polar bear and her offspring, the challenges they faced in the harsh Antarctica. and I thought hey! This is not something I could ever witness myself! :techie-studyinggray: :techie-studyinggray:

Reading is therapeutic for me. It helps me take my mind off the daily stress and struggles. I don't think I can do without it.

Reading allows me to escape into different worlds, gain knowledge, and explore different perspectives. It is a source of relaxation and entertainment, a way to acquire new skills, and a means to foster empathy by experiencing the lives of characters in a story.

I used to like reading because it helped me calm down and have a ME time
But now I'm more into dialog and listening to audiobook s or for example to a resume of a book by someone else
(Not having time as I used to :( )

I like to read because it allows me to connect to a mind that may be as different from me as the surface of the Earth is to the surface of the Sun. Sometimes life can get boring, predictable, and rather ho-hum, but when you pick up a book- good or bad- you're transported to a place that's far different from the one you were in before you opened the cover. Because of that, you never get bored, and I believe that a "clean" addiction is much more valuable than any other you could accrue universally.

I love to read books set in or about countries I am about to go to or have already been. This is because, as many other people have said, I love to be transported to another place. Travelling is everything to me so to combine these two hobbies is so fun!
