Re: Writing? IN BOOKS?

When I was in college all of my English professors made me feel bad for not writing in my books. I just don't like doing it. It's a personal preference and it irritated me that they always tried to force me to do it.

I don't like writing in books. But if someone lends me their book and they have written in it, I find it interesting to read the comments.

I also can't stand writing in books. I understand if it's your own book, but definitely not if it's a borrowed book, especially if it's mine!

I find this is ok if your planning on keeping the book. If your not keeping it or its not yours then most defiantly not.

I used to really hate when people would write in books...but I've now become one of the people that does that. I usually only do it if it's a non-fiction book and I want to add my own understanding to what I'm learning. With fiction I find it kind of unnecessary and annoying...unless it's for a literature class.

I do it in academic or educational books so I can go back and find things easily. It helps me better retain what I've read. If I'm just reading a book for enjoyment I don't though... it's more work. But seeing writing in books doesn't bother me in principle, but it is distracting if someone else did it.

Books read for a class - and that I'm keeping, not selling back to the college bookstore - were fair game for underlining and margin notes (good luck deciphering my handwriting in my copy of Les Liaisons Dangereuses!). But any of my reading matter now, even if read for information purposes, remains free of notes - if there's something I want to remember, I'll flag it with a Post-it note and take notes elsewhere.

Front of book is fine i.e for gifts, but not on the pages. It ruins everything

I hate writing in books and I have only ever done it for school and my A-Levels for English literature and Language and we had to write in scripts for drama but I always did it in pencil so I could rub it out after! I hate defacing books :(

I prefer to keep my books in "new" condition. My books are in the condition they were in when I got them from the shop (unless they were used books of course) accept from one book which front cover just fell off one day :S AND preferable with no spit on the pages. I just hate it when I encounter people licking their finger to turn the pages, it's super gross!

I don't really like it even if it's a book I get from a used book store, but by this time I've gotten used to it. It still bothers me a bit but for the most part I've learned to not complain about it as much(which is a big step for me).
But I myself refuse to write in a book unless it's a workbook or something.

Umm I feel as if it is just vandalism towards well a book because i feel like you should just read the book and enjoy it and not put notes and stuff around it. However if it is a book like how to bake and you want to take a few notes go ahead but I would use a sticky note because i wouldn't like to permanently write on a book

I DO write in my own personal books, but in pencil. Sometimes I just really like a passage, or how something is worded. Sometimes for bookclub, I like to reference ideas for discussion. But only in my books, never someone elses.
Adventure...one part stupidty plus two parts perseverence....yeah, that's me!
