I listened to music while I read before. However, when I realised that I ended up tuning out the music because I was lost in my book, I stopped listening to music.

Depends totally upon what I'm reading. If it's something casual, such as a magazine or newspaper or internet, then I'm okay with maybe some rock or jazz in the background.

But if the reading is "deep" such as a bio of Julius Caesar or perhaps Joyce or a book on quantum physics, then music is distracting.

Also, I'm a huge classics fan, especially opera, and when I am really "into" the music, I can't be reading. The two are mutually exclusive but for good reasons, not bad. And often, if it's opera, i'll be following along with the score (I sang opera for several years, semi-pro).

I love reading and music both. But if either subject is "serious" then I can't have both at the same time.

I listen to music sometimes when I am in the mood, but for the most part I like to try to read with little or no noise around me.

No, I find it distracting. Too bad, though, because sometimes I would like to.

I do like to listen to music while I read, but only instrumental or classical. I really love music too, so if I listen to any groups that I enjoy, I get too distracted from the music to be truly engrossed in my reading.

It always depends on the mood I am in. Sometimes I'll listen to music but sometimes I'm in the mood for complete silence while reading.

I usually do. It is mostly classical though, or something slow and mellow. I'm fairly good at tuning out noise distractions, perhaps all those moments reading in class with everyone talking and screaming around you. Even more so when I'm really into a story, then I'm practically gone from this reality. Would be hard to distract me away from the book's world.

Most of the time I have music on quietly in the background, however after a while I forget that the music is even on as I am too busy reading my book!

I, personally, love to have music on while I’m reading. However, the lyrics in the song has to match what I’m reading and though I use ear phones, they can’t be too loud or too quiet but just the right volume. Usually, when I’m reading a book, I create a playlist of songs that go with the book or have one single son on repeat if I think that that certain song represents the book very well.

Sometimes I tend to listen to music and read. Depending on the type of music I am listening to just because I like to understand what I'm reading. :D
