Ditto for historical fiction, the more remote in time the better (with the Middle Ages being the cutoff period); I love it when there's so much period detail that it feels like a three-dimensional experience .... Second, Fantasy, and the ability to make implausible worlds seem plausible; maps to these worlds are like treasure maps to me. ... Lastly, Fairy Tales that have a new spin on a tired theme are a joy for me to read. "Newbery Award Winners" is not a genre, but that doesn't stop me from picking them off, one by one. For instance, right now I'm reading, "Al Capone Does My Shirts" (Okay, it was an Honor Book and not the actual Grand Newbery Winner), a book about this kid who's stuck on The Rock because his father is a guard/electrician there. It's even got a map of Alcatraz, circa 1935!

I am such an eclectic reader, it is difficult to choose, but I would have to say, general non-fiction, realistic fiction, and mystery/suspense would probably be my top three.

Two of my favorite genres are on the list, but one of them isn't. I like Romance and Mystery/Thriller/Suspense. My third fave is Paranormal Romance/Urban Fantasy. Now that may be included in Romance, but I think it is its own genre because with your normal romance books you don't have paranormal elements, characters etc.

ooh I want to vote - still working out how to do that...

for me, romance/erotica, fantasy, and young adult - how come YA isn't part of the genres in the list?

Romance, historical fiction, biographies, though I will read almost anything that sounds interesting. The only thing I don't like is crime/thrillers...they give me nightmares.

Perhaps my first choice is a peculiar one: The Epistolary Novel. This is one where the plot and characters are developed by letters sent back and forth (like in Shelley's "Frankenstein" or in Collins' "Woman in White" or "Moonstone.")

2nd choice: mysteries set in Victorian London (on the realm of Steampunk)
, like in the Gibson/Sterling novel "The Difference Engine", set in a Victorian steampunk age, or films like "The Wild, Wild, West."
3rd choice: archeological mysteries, which take place around Ancient Egypt or Mayan country (about to read Hancock's new novel "The War god", e.g.)

Thanks for the opportunity!

Poetry, biography, historical fiction, and one that wasn't included on the survey would be spirituality/religion.
