Definitely agree with others that it about escapism! It's a portal that allows you to go anywhere!

But I also love the element of learning. I read a lot of non-fiction, mainly history and science, that of course I learn a lot from those books. But novels also give a lot of insight into shared references and social commentary.

Reading let's me escape the real world for a little while. I get to experience other cultures, meet new people, and have adventures I would never experience in reality.

I just never seem to get tired of reading, even though I am very picky about what I will or won't read.

Reading allows you to set your own life issues aside and to be able to dive into someone else’s life for a moment. For me, I can deflect from reality this way, making reading all the more exciting. I believe this is why I lean more to the thriller and crime genres in my reading choices.

Reading is definitely part of self care and I enjoy my own company. Reading allows you to escape the reality of life and I love reading paperbacks which allows me to be away from technology. Reading is such a therapy to me and I am grateful that books and reading exists. :D

I love reading because it fuels my imagination and expands my understanding of the world. It’s like a quiet escape that also teaches me something—about life, people, or even myself. Every book leaves me with a little more than I had before.

I like reading because it's a way to experience a world or situations beyond my own. In addition to being a joy, it's also a way to experience different viewpoints. Reading creates worlds without limits. I can read about situations or worlds that never existed, or learn more about the world we live in. I can figure out how to make new things, learn a new skill, and connect with others who are doing the same!

This is beautiful! I was trying to think of how to capture what I feel about reading and after posting my message, yours showed up above mine and I thought - "Yes! This! Exactly! :)".

Two reasons :

1/ Escapism

2/ It helps me sleep if I read in bed prior to switching the light off.

I have always loved reading since I was young, and I guess I never stopped. The reason I started was because I wanted to imitate my mom, who loves reading, but then I surpassed her and eventually fell in love with reading. When I am reading a book, I get lost in the narrative, and I feel like I am part of the characters, and reading also fuels my imagination because at one point in time, I would love to become an author.
