I generally steer clear of horror books. Too much of that in today's news.

I don't like crime fictions and romance fictions.
I hate to read about criminals. Of course, orcs or other monsters in fantasy books are also bloodthirsty and evil, but they are completely fictional. Criminals are real or may be real.
As for romance fictions, they all seem the same. Maybe this is just not my genre.

I stay away from the YA stories about a bunch of magical kids. It just doesn't do it for me. I don't like horror either, but thriller, mystery or suspense is great!

I tend to stay away from really descriptive horror. My imagination is really overactive and I have paranoia, so I scare easily and can get a lot of nightmares.

I tend to stay away from overly religious and spiritual books. But if it's a religious or spiritual story which is interesting, I can read it. I also stay away from the true-crime genre which contain stories of serial killers with gruesome details

I stay away from horror books. I dislike violence in all its forms, therefore it would be impossible for me to find such book interesting.

I do not enjoy horror or murder or graphic, malicious violence at all. I am fine with gritty, and especially realistic, descriptions of believable situations though.

I am pretty willing to give any genre a shot. However, I tend to avoid specific authors that I know I don't enjoy.

I don't like any military or political types of plots. Stephen King's Dream Catcher was about as much as I could handle of that genre mixed in with the horror.

I usually stay away from romance books... just doesn't generate any interest. I am also not a huge fan of crime/ detective novels... just not my cup of tea
Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming “Wow! What a Ride!” HST

I stay away from horror books. I don't even watch horror movies much. The reason is that horror books and movies bores me.
