What do you do if a book isn't interesting?

Most times I will do my best to finish it; it bugs me not to how how everything resolves, even if it's a painful read. There have been rare occasions where I have just stopped reading because I can't handle it anymore. Sometimes I wonder how certain books have made it to the publishing and distributing stage without being good.

I pretty much always persevere, unless it is particularly problematic. This has only happened a couple of times and I usually go back to it at a later date finding often that I am able to read it at a different stage in my life.

I try to stick with it. But don't usually continue if the book is boring after ther 5th chapter I usually leave it be. Sometimes I will go back to it a few months later and see how I feel then

I'm one of those people who can't put the book down based on problems with the story. There are very few times that I don't force myself through the book so that I can at least say I gave it a fair shot. When I do give up, it's usually over irritants such as too many grammar or apostrophe errors. As for the story itself, I remember reading required books in school and hating them and then mid way through a light bulb went off and I loved them. So I try to give every book a fair chance then post my review accordingly.

I feel that some books are testing how patient we are to pursue wisdom. I've came across books that seemed at the beginning so dull and boring that I literally wanted to throw them in the garbage only to find out that they are treasures in the wisdom they hold.

I haven't found many boring, but the couple that I have, I've plowed through and find that at a certain point, I generally want to know at least what happens, so it gets easier.

To jechamer: I have done that, too, but very infrequently. I guess I lack discipline and need to up the ante for myself!!

Don't know if I wrote here before. I usually read a book a bit before I take it out of the library or buy it. Then when I get home if it's a slow read I might do a chapter or two then skip around to the interesting parts and then return the book.

I usually give it up as a bad job. Too many good books out there to be wasting time on something I dont like. Thats like someone who dosent like cabbage eating it just to say they did.

Put it down and walk away.... There are so many great ones left and so little time! If an author starts rambling, or 'padding pages', I run.
