I have to read a series in order! if the 3rd book comes out a year after I read the 2nd book I have to reread the whole series because I read so many books that I've lived so many different lives that I have to remember what happened in this particular life. I'm a little obsessive.

Naturally a series has to be read in order to be enjoyed to the maximum. It is frustrating to read a book then find that it is part of a series and not the first one! Some can be read without having read previous books but most often it is best to have them as background.

I always read a series in order. Unless are a series is done and a prequel to the series comes out. I just read it afterwards.

Yes, I do prefer reading books in the order of the series because if I read a book out of order, I feel like I'm missing out on key information and I have to go back to fully understand any of the sequels.

I have an OCD about reading a series of books in chronological order, as well as never start a movie if I know that I cannot watch the entire thing or starting it in the middle. I have had a series of books that I was missing, Dean Koontz's Odd Thomas and was missing the book Brother Odd, and the library did not have it. I waited until the previous reader returned the book to the library so I could check it out before I read the series beyond that. lol It was the longest two weeks of my life.

YES. I don't understand why people would seek in order.I don't like spoilers.

I have to read a series in the right order. To me if I read them out of order I might not understand some things because they happened in the book before and I haven't read it yet so it could get confusing.

I have this obsessive need to read books that are part of a series in chronological order. I can't just start a series in the middle even if the novels can be read as stand alone. I think it has something to do with the fact that I have OCD and I have to do things in a certain order anyway.

What about if the series isn't written in order? (The Narnia books spring to mind, or Gore Vidal's American Empire). Would you then read them in the order the events take place or in the order they were published?

Of course I do! It's the best way to learn about the characters and follow the storyline to the best you can.

It entirely depends on the series. I enjoy the Jack Reacher books and to be honest, the order doesn't seem to matter very much....

Definitely in a chronological order! I haven't tried it, but I think it would really mess me up if I skipped a book. I JUST HAVE TO READ THE FIRST BOOK FIRST :D :D :D

I try! But sometimes it just can't be helped and I have to start midway in a book series. For the most part, I've been lucky in that this has only happened with book series which has stories that can stand alone pretty well - I didn't need to read the Hobbit to enjoy Lord of the Rings, for example, and I certainly didn't give a toss to chronological order when I read Nancy Drew or Enid Blyton's boarding school stories.
