Liars Poker

Post by mrrsx2006 »

Has anyone read this book? I just started reading it and I'm on page 25 and am drawn into it. So far it's been talking about the layout of Investment Banking and how it works. Whats your opinions on the novel if you have read it?

Hi,

I've had Liar's Poker on my bookshelf for the past five years and, having seen your post, have decided to finally make the time to read it. I personally think that it'll be quite tame compared to some of the current trading methods out there. I admit to being a member of advfn.co.uk, which is a trading platform for private investors (and most of the main traders use it too), and having witnessed some of the manipulations and lies that have been spread around the market recently, I can't begin to imagine that these methods were used twenty years ago without the entire system imploding. Also a good friend of mine worked in a trading room in the eighties and some of her stories were hilarious. I'm on page 57.

I used to work in a dealing room and the book really did a good job at describing the dealer mentality (the BSD effect). while i dont think it will help you with your trading, it gives great insight as to why these investment banks get into so much trouble

If you liked this book; read Den of Thieves by James Stewart; awesome account of the Michael Milken era and better written than Liar's Poker

I don't think anything will help my trading ATM, I'm in small oilies and even they are getting hammered. I think I should concentrate on reading about the stock market rather than investing, it saves money.
