new book suggestion..?

Post by Jennifer »

Mornin` y`all! Can anyone recommend a new(or newish)book that might fly under the radar? I read the N.Y. Times Book Review, but can anyone recommend an 'undiscovered treasure'? Such tomes rarely disappoint me. Thanx! ~Jennifer! :D

I do not recall seeing Those Who save Us by Jenna Blum on the best sellers list but may have missed it. It was a wonderful book.

Another good one is Purple Hibiscus by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie (I may be misspelling the middle name). She is a Nigerian author and this book was very thought provoking.

Hi Jennifer. Your new here right? Welcome!

In terms of a good read, I would suggest you just go fishing through all the threads and check out the many books discussed in the different sections.

I've read Purple Hibiscus and it's very good.

How about going for an Australian book? They rarely make any of the US best seller lists, but we're putting out some fantastic fiction. Tim Winton is my favourite author and he's an Aussie.

I have indeed and it is a much beloved favourite. I like Cloudstreet the best though. That's my favourite book of all time. And The Riders is fantastic too. I'm about to read his latest, Breath, very soon.

I am so glad. Dirt music received mixed reviews at the book swap site I frequent. I don't usually let reviews there change my desire to read a book but I must admit it did push it further down the list of books to read.

Ok I have only read one from ths author, but I will recommend

T. D. McKinney. She writes a varity of books from Vampires to romance.

the one I read was Dancing In The Dark a vampire novel. Her debut, which for a debut, I have to admit was very good. I am a bad reader and have to admit I haven't read anything since. But I hear she is very good.

website probably explain her work better than I could, especially since I have been too lazy to keep up.

"Woman's World" by Graham Rawle!

I'm recommending it to everyone. It contains mystery, psychological character studies and the book itself was written using nothing but clippings from vintage women's magazines. As a whole, it's an incredible book.

If you don't mind a suggestion from the author himself, try Paranoia by me. :) J.E. Braun. You can check it out on amazon or bn.com for reviews...which I would recommend so you can get an unbiased opinion..and can read more about it under the fiction category at allthesebooks.com. It's available in paperback and on Kindle.

I was walking by the local indie bookstore in Orlando and saw an author reading from his book. The book was a memoir called Dumbfounded and the author is Matt Rothschild. His reading was really funny so I got a copy (I'd never heard of him but he was in the paper). Anyway, if you love Sedaris, you'll love this guy.

Rothschild grew up in ritzy New York City, and definitely pokes fun at his upbringing. His grandmother is a riot. It's like Auntie Mame meets Fiddler on the Roof. I read it in two sittings.

Found a gem, a pre-released copy given to me (by a friend in-the-know), Things Forgotten by new author Thomas N Tabback. I absolutely recommend it, I feel so privileged to have read it before its official release. Look it up, I promise you won't be able to put it down. When you read it, let me know. You're welcome. http://thingsforgottenbook.com
