I can't for the life of me remember the name of this book, and I want to read it again.

I know it's Young Fiction, and from what I can remember a girl is kidnapped into the desert, where she eventually joins the people who kidnapped her, learns to ride, learns the language, and becomes a warrior of some sort. I also remember her horse's name was 'gold-something-or-other', or something along those lines. Does anyone know what I'm talking about?

It's similar to things by Tamora Pierce, but I don't think she wrote it. Please help?
