Does size really matter?

Short stories vs. longer novels/series.
What your opinion/preference? I myself have always enjoyed a good series where I witness the growth of characters and story lines. I have never been one for short stories but maybe I havent given them enough of a chance. Whats your opinion? Are there any short stories you would recommend?

Not a short story reader myself.

I generally like my books to be at least 200 pages long.

On the other hand, I'm not really into series either - I like to read a book and perhaps one sequel and then move onto something else.

I dont really have a preference between short stories and longer novels/series. I also enjoy reading a longer novel where I can watch a character grow, that being said, there are short stories that document a character's growth in one hundred pages or less. Many authors write short stories that are jam-packed with mystery, drama or suspense( depending on your preferred genre) that leave you wanting more, like a bad ending to a movie that shouldn't have a sequel lol. I would recommend you read, " Things Fall Apart" by Chinua Achebe, if you haven't already. It's a book that speaks on pride, tradition and change amongst other things. Check it out, you may like it!

I am more of a fan of longer novels. When a story is too short (or a short story) I feel as if there isn't enough time to develop strong characters and plot, while with a longer novel there is ample time. I like to read a series, but I don't like it when a series consists of 20 books. I always feel like I have to read every book in a series and after about the 6th book, they usually tend to get old.

So yes, I am a fan of standalone long novels and not really a fan of short stories or elaborate series'.

I enjoy longer novels more so than short stories. I feel there's more time for character development and deeper story lines.

Don't really like short stories. But the books which just keep going on, series more than 4-5 books just make me lose interest in them as well. So, a decent enough book size is good.

I prefer a novel over a short story simply because I enjoy the story to develop over time wherein, a short story has to get to the point right away, although that's fine, but I like to take my time when reading a story and I love the detail of a novel.

It does not really matter to me either. Sometimes I get a little intimidated by long books though. Commitment sometimes scares me. Haha! Really though, I tend to read books that are about 200 pages long. Just enough room for a good story and character development without making me commit. :-)

I don't have any I currently recommend but I do enjoy an anthology of short stories when I am looking for a quick read.

I enjoy longer stories simply because they take longer to get through. Short stories are fine, except that I can get through them in about an hour, whereas a long one can keep me reading for weeks. I like not being able to finish the book in one sitting, and going through the day waiting eagerly for the next part, even though at the moment of stopping I desperately want to keep reading.

I don't really have a preference. I really think it comes down to the writing rhythm and style and of course, to the plot itself. Some plots require longer books (even series), others... not really.

I am a great fan of the short story particularly anthologies. These present an ideal opportunity to study writers' different styles. Also the authors have often written full length books too, which I have gone on to read.

I love both! Well written short stories can connect you to the character just as well as a novel. I really love book series that all set in the same world, but have books from different characters perspectives (like discworld). So... I think size doesn't matter it's all about how you use it! Lol like it has to maintain my interest
