When the book is over...

Post by frenxi »

Hello Readers,

my name is Francesco and this is my very first post here! :)

I wanted to ask if I am the only one who feels a strange feeling of "emptiness" when a book is over, right after the initial "fulfillment" fades.

I am a "dog-ear" person and I like marking pages that I really liked, or underlying specific phrases/words... and every time I take an old book, I am surprised by how much I like those "dogeared pages", but at the same time I managed to forget them.

It seems like there are just a few takeaways I bring with me forever for every book, especially after reading many of them.

Just curious to know if anyone else is feeling the same, or in other creative ways :)

Cheers,
Francesco

Yes, I’m familiar with the book hangover! Sometimes we read books so amazing it’s hard to get over them and find another book that seems to fill that hole. Sometimes, during a book hangover, I find the best way back is by reading an old favorite. You should be reading something you already know you love so you can experience the joy again at a time when you really need it. Or, if that isn’t helpful, find a short and lighthearted book that looks like fun and maybe has a lot of humor in it. These are the things that sometimes help me.

I definitely feel the same way, especially when I loved the novel it feels like a part of me is gone with the book getting over, or like a friendship had ended

Hi Francesco, you’re definitely not alone in this feeling. I can relate to that feeling of emptiness after finishing a book. It’s like saying goodbye to a world and characters you’ve grown attached to. The satisfaction and melancholy is all part of the reading journey.

The ending of a book is really a unique experience for me like a parting and personally I get a little sad when I reach the end of a book that I liked even if the ending was a happy one it's the parting that gets me sad.

I usually a feel a little sad but also happy when I finish a book, and then depending on the book really sad. Some books just truly make you feel like the characters are your friends and it’s sad when those end.
