Book Help - What book was it?

Post by keylime »

Not too terribly long ago I read a book and I cannot for the life of me remember what book it was, or who wrote it.

I remember the two lead characters were teenage girls (may have been adult character remembering the past). The girls were not sisters but shared a bedroom because one of the girls mother's was unfit. I believe the mothers' of the girls were sisters.

The lead character is a bit loose. As a teen she is raped by a boy she knows, hits him in the head with a bottle and kills him. It is believed that he left town, something about his truck on the side of the road, but she had pushed his body off the side of a hill and he landed in dense foliage (kudzu?). Later it may even been revealed that her aunt came and got the body and buried it in the garden.

I believe the story takes place in the past - like '60s.

I mostly read "Chick Lit" or whatever is current on the shelves at the store. I often read Oprah picks. Some of my favorite authors are Elizabeth Berg, Jodi Picoult, Anita Shreve, Lorna Landvick. My favorite in recent memory was Water for Elephants. But I don't think it was one of my "regular" authors. I am just stumped!

I just can't recall the title or the author. I can't even remember if it was hardback, trade or paper back, ugh! It is driving me crazy not remembering.

Does any of this ring a bell with anyone out there?

I'm glad I found this board as I love reading!!
