I'm looking for a book that is somewhat of a historical epic romance,think of the movie Australia.All of the books that I've found are lustful and a bit dull, two things of which I would prefer not to include.I enjoy the western/adventure/romance of Australia and would like to read a book with a similar make up.Can anyone direct me in the correct direction?I would sincerely appreciate the help.

Try We of the Never Never by Jeannie Gunn (Aeneas Gunn). It was first published in 1908, but you should be able to get your hands on it. It is an autobiographical novel which tells of the author's experiences in the outback where her husband was a station owner. I'm an aussie and a girl-person so it resonates deeply with me, but it is the most honest and engaging account of the environment, the people, and the culture of the times I have read.
I have recommended it in other posts, because it's one of my all time favourites. I would love you to read it and tell me what you think.
I haven't seen or read Australia, but intend to. The film got bad reviews here, and what I've seen/heard of it, it doesn't come close to Jeannies effort if you want to gain aninsight ito the "real" outback" back then.
I don't know where you are Softballer, but if you're not an Aussie I'd be happy to do my best to answer any questions you may have about oz culture and history.

Are you looking for a book specifically about Australia? If not, I immediately thought of Lonesome Dove.
