"Anonymous" book

Post by audie103 »

Hello, all. I'm Audrey & I've been trying to find EVERYWHERE since 4th grade a book that my teacher read. I don't know the author or title or cover, but I DO know the last page had an illustration of a man and woman carved out of two pieces of wood, and were set against a tree.

It's about a boy who lives in an alternate dimension/world and a hole opens every certain number of years and it's forbidden for anyone to go near it, lest they fall through and into OUR world. He accidentally does and is found by a kind farm family. They try to keep him hidden from the authorities-whom are suspicious of how he came to "appear" there-and overtime discover he has certain abilities(he's unusually smart and skilled for a boy his age, or for a boy at all). At the end, they are able to get him back to his world just before the authorities can snare him. The one thing he left was two wooden carvings made with exceptional skill of a man and woman. If ANYONE has anything close to a clue/idea...really, any help is appreciated(excepting looking through bookstores; don't think I haven't tried that endlessly).
I'm only just now trying forums because a bookstore associate advised to do so; it always takes someone else to think of the simple things.

P.S. If this post sounds desperate, IT IS!
