Bookshelves... where is the best places to have them?

Post by SamanthaKay »

I have 3 bookshelves in my basement, with the books that i had as a child or books that i hated. I have one in my room but it tends to be cluttered a lot. I want an extra room as a 'library' but i was wondering if anyone had any others ideas or if you had anything that worked for you! :D

Also I'm running low on books again :( any good suggestions for a 16 year old to read? Let me know please :D

Depends on your circumstances- if you have kids running around the house, its best to stick it in a spare room or your bedroom. If not, then the living room or bedroom would suffice.

Mine are in my bedroom but only because I have no ther choice. I live at home with my parents and my mom doesn't want any bookshelves in the living room. Even if she did have a bookshelf, it wouldn't have books in it but instead decorations of sorts. I have so many books crammed in my tiny bedroom that I don't know what I am going to do when I run out of space (which is happening rapidly - I have books stacked on my computer desk, and over thirty of them on my dresser). I like to be organized but it's impossible.

I have a shelf out in my garage that is air tight. I don't really like putting books out there so I only put my least favorite ones out there.

ok thanks! Ya i have the same problem. I have one in my room but my cat keeps knocking them off and that is hurting the corners and binding. I have piles on the floor at the moment too.

We have a family room that has no TV, so it is somewhat of a library/reading room. We keep all our book in two big bookshelves.

For me, it's the bedroom. Then again, I still live with my parents. In the future i'd love to have a library if my house was big enough.

If I ever win the Lottery I plan on having a real old style library with leather wingback armchairs and reading lamps and floor to ceiling shelves and one of those ladders on runners you see in old movies. It will also have huge windows, a big fireplace, a drinks cabinet and for real perfection a window seat!

And most important of all the door will have a lock ... I will then become a happy, contended recluse and read my life away. (Dream On)

Mine is in my bedroom. I'm currently in the process of kinda cleaning out the books that I won't read ever again, though, and making room for some new ones.

Wherever I can find room.
The most basic question is not what is best, but who shall decide what is best.

Sure it should be the living room as it's the palce where most people read and relax and the books are displayed for everyone in the house.

I feel a bachelor can have a book shelf in his bedroom as books can always give him a company (Books are our best friend). Moreover, if you have lack of space, you can divide your books : the Personal favourite ones can be placed in your room and others which you would like to share with others, can be placed in the living room, where others can also read them.

You should of had an option for 'all of the above'. I shove books where-ever there is space ... bedroom, lounge, family room, coffee table, etc..

If I could have a good bookshelf in the future, I might want to have several like in the living room, have a dedicated reading room, and then also in the bedroom. I'd like to make my house a book lover's heaven, if that's achievable.
Your Sincerely
