Repo! The Genetic Opera
In a not too distant future, GeneCo, the inventors of artificial organs, can save anyone's life. For a price.
So what happens when that price is too high? That's okay. They're not going to deny you. You can just borrow from them, literally mortgaging your life.
But you know what happens if you can't pay your mortgage.
In comes Repo Man. Repossessing that which belongs to GeneCo. Legally.
(Played by Anthony Head, who also sings several songs. Giles from Buffy can sing, who knew?)
As you can guess, this is a dark and morbid tale, but also silly, and serious, with an interesting (and (at least to its fans) amazing) soundtrack.
Sarah Brightman, Paul Sorvino, Alexa Vega, even Paris Hilton (no, she really cannot sing, but that's actually very fitting for her drug addicted character).
The focus of the story is actually a young girl, Shiloh. Her mother died when she was born, and she's been made to believe she's too sick to go outside, all because her father is afraid he'll lose her. Things unravel, and secrets are found out, and nothing is the same in the end.
If you are interested by the premise, or enjoy darker side comics (one of its creators (who also portrays the narrator) writes and draws his own comics), you may "get" this musical. If you're unreasonably drawn to Tim Burton, or think Tim Curry looked best in a corset and fishnets, this may strike your fancy. If you laugh at the ridiculousness of most horror movies, and enjoy the in-jokes of the genre, it's possible you could enjoy this.
But again, it's definitely NOT for everyone, or even a large percentage of people. But those who love it, really love it.
It's dark, and it's gory, and it's one of my favorite movies. It also could have been an epic book.
Though I doubt it, I have to wonder if anyone here is actually one of those fans?

Thank you.

Another awesome thing about this? It's not a typical musical. Basically all of the dialogue is sung.
See.⬆ I get a little

That's a good thing to hear!BookishCreature wrote: ↑23 Jan 2018, 12:26 As soon as I read the title, all I heard in my head was "GRAAAVES!" Repo is such a wonderfully weird movie. Sarah Brightman as Mag was top notch, I think.
