Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? by Edward Albee is an amazing page-to-stage-to-screen transition. Probably one of my favourites. And then there's of course The Godfather by Mario Puzo (no explanation needed), the Harry Potter series and the David Lean adaptation of Great Expectations. All of them are very good. The mini-series of Pride and Prejudice produced by BBC (with Colin Firth and Jennifer Ehle) is also fantastic! :)

My favorite book to movie adaptation would be The Lord of the Rings trilogy, along with The Hobbit of course. :D

I like the Jane Eyre adaptations, and The Book Thief as a recent one that I thought they did a marvelous job with!

The Book Thief, definitely! I loved that movie so much! Also, LOTR and Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (but not any of the other Potter movies).

I'm not sure if it is my favourite but i really enjoyed the film adaptation of 'Perks of Being a Wallflower'. I am aware that the Stephen Chbosky directed it himself which goes a long way to explain it's likeliness i guess.

I felt that the Lord of the Rings series was extremely well done. This is one of the few times that I felt that the story was improved through the movie adaptation compared to the books. They knew exactly which scenes to leave in and which to leave out.

Two movies I felt did not do well transitioning to the screen were Clan of the Cave Bears and Eragon. I enjoyed the Clan of the Cave Bears series but the movie failed to impress.
Christopher Paolini was such a talented writer especially when taking into consideration his young age. The actor who played Eragon needed some experience and his acting seemed awkward and took away from the story. It was unfortunate that the movie didn't do well and the other three books could not make it to the big screen.

I'm going to have to go with To Kill A Mockingbird. I thought the movie captured the look and feel of the novel quite well. Like most movie adaptations it did not include everything that was in the book but what it did render to film was spot on in my opinion.

My favorite is the Hunger Games so far, because for me the books, as they go on, decline for me but the movies are a definite incline and just get better and better.
