I haven't watched the movies, but I've read snatches of the books at bookshops. The books gave me a good feeling. Any recommendations on whether I should read all the books first or watch all the movies first?

Although the post is a little old, I recommend the books to all; being a masterpiece in its time that began a new YA dystophian era, it also has a myriad of messages hidden in a well-crafted plot. Besides, it also counts with more raw scenes that the movies do not have, you can better understand Katniss´character more (apart from complex she is absolutely adorable in her own way), and see a better develop romance and character deepness in Peeta. And that´s the only the tip of the iceberg giving how well developed the cast is. One of my favorite series, to be honest.

I never read the books but I think that Jennifers' portrayal of Katniss Everdeen was up to the mark and her acting was very convincing in many scenes. I think no one could have played katniss better than her.

Hey! I think the hunger games books are worth it if you liked the movies. They go more in depth of some things and it's pretty cool.

I think they're the same. The ending and setting were more beautiful in the movie. (I admit!) It was however amazing to read Katniss's thoughts and everything felt more alive in the book.

I also saw the movies before reading the books. I personally found both the movies and books to be pretty good, but the books made me more sympathetic to Katniss as a character. For a comparison book by book, the first book is better than the movie, the second movie is better than the book, and the last book is better than the movies. The second movie is my absolute favorite though, so I am biased haha.

If you like the movies then I definitely recommend reading the books. I found the movies alright but the characters emotional development and depth was a bit lacking.

As with most film adaptation's, the books are so so good and definitely better than the movie! HG is definitely one of the better adaptations, but there’s just so much that can’t fit into a movie.

I actually have had the books sitting in my bookshelf for years, and the movies are something I rewatch now and again. I'm probably going to be reading them soon after I finish the Harry potter books
