Kubrick's Shining and it's many interpertations

Post by Nym182 »

If you have seen the classic Stephen King novel turned into a classic horror movie by Stanley Kubrick (Hey, both SKs... maybe that means something) you know that the movie and book have some vast differences.

Throughout the movie, many have pulled different symbolic imagery and have developed theories about what Kubrick was trying to "say".

For example, some say that Kubrick was illustrating that he helped fake the moon landing and was "winking" at the audience by having Jack wear an Apollo 11 sweater.

Other's say he was making a statement about the Native American genocide, as you can see different props throughout the movie bearing Native American names/mascots/logos.

One of me favorite documentaries about The Shining is (I believe) a Netflix original called Room 237. IT goes through a bunch of really interesting fan theories and points of some really neat details in the movie. It even talks about some weird discoveries people made but overlapping movies as it plays forward and backward...

Does anyone have any interest Kubrick theories?
Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming “Wow! What a Ride!” HST

I'm okay with both. It's hard for me to decide what's best with things like this sometimes, and I guess I just don't mind, as long as it's good.
