Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries

Post by Chirlerona »

I have recently come across these series and found myself absolutely hooked. Loving Miss Fisher's glam and witty character and her chemistry with charmingly grumpy Detective Jack Robinson. It is based on Kerry Davidson's historic mystery novels, which I haven't read. It is unusual for me to see the screen version first, I usually read the book and then follow it up with the movie. Would love to hear your views on the novels, are they better than the TV series?
Or just share your opinion on the TV version, I am sure I am not the only fan ( am I?!)🤩

I think the novels are much better than the TV series. A lot was changed from book to screen. Characters were removed, new characters were added, and even Phyrne herself was changed somewhat. That romance with the dishy inspector? Not in the books at all. It's almost as if the TV series is a different story altogether. But if I think of it as a different story, then I like the TV series. But still not as much as the books. And it's lovely to find a fellow addict.

Your response actually encouraged me to read the novels! I like Phryne's character in the series, but it would be great to read the books to see how it differs. Might struggle with the lack of romance, but hope that detective stories will make up for it. Thank you!

It was an absolutely good one, one of the best. I love the story, characters, plot, themes, suspense, and what a fantastic ending.

It's hard to pick in such cases. I haven't read the book, but the TV series by itself was entertaining, and the story-telling was strong. Can't say how it compares to the book though!
