Movie Tropes

Post by edztan15 »

What movie tropes annoy you the most?

I hate it when there's a huge battle with lots of enemies (usually in sci-fi, fantasy, and horror) and all the protagonist has to do is kill the boss and all of its minions simply walk away or die.

I hate when in general, the protagonist works towards something and is almost there, but the ending is just given to them. Like they worked so hard for this one thing and they never truly finish it because the last piece is just given to them. It just feels like they should have done more towards it, or not have had to work so hard earlier.

I think I know some movies with that trope though I can't pull a title off the top of my head right now. Could you give some films with the trope you mentioned?

I hate the Deus ex machina tropes. When everything is easily solved by some nonsensical thing. For example the ending of the Avatar: The Last Airbender series.

Oh my god, I agree that the 'kill the main baddie and everyone else goes down' is awful (looking at you Game of Thrones Season 8). Another one that really annoys me is the one where the protagonist is surrounded by a gang of people, but instead of everyone in that gang attacking the protagonist, they go at them one at a time. I understand why they do this, but it just breaks the immersion for me.

I actually hate the info dumps in the begining of the movie. It is really the first thing they teach you show dont tell.
