What is your favourite Book-To-Movie Adaptation?

What is your favorite Book-To-Movie Adaptation?
Some books have and some have not transitioned well onto film.
Usually the book tends to be better only cause it becomes more personal with details, for others it works better visually.
It can be annoying when the book and film don't exactly align.
For example, in The Last Song by Nicholas Sparks, the book refers to a purple streak in the hair of the main character, and that did not appear in the movie. Something so simple yet significant.
But sometimes a different perspective can be gratifying, like in My Sister's Keeper by Jodi Picoult. I enjoyed both versions regardless of minor differences. Both were very touching and emotional.
I am looking forward to reading Heaven is for Real: A Little Boy's Astounding Story of His Trip to Heaven and Back after recently watching the film as my next Book-To-Movie Adaptation.

I really like the book-to-movie adaptation of The Way I Live Now as while I was reading it I found it very enjoyable but sometimes forgot or changed some of the characters features. With it then being made into a movie I could actually see the characters that I had been reading about all that time, what they were suppose to look like. However I can understand when people say that they dont like book-to-movie adaptations because some readers prefer it when they can imagine the scenes and characters how they want to see them, not how directors and casting directors see them.

I liked 'The Da Vinci Code." Thought the movie was well done. I also liked "The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo," particularly the Swedish version.

I know this is cheesy but I am always on the lookout for Jane Austen adaptations. I just love seeing how different adaptations draw out or try to 'reveal' different aspects of characters that I probably would not have thought of, obviously from just reading the book. Not all of the book-to-movie adaptations are always accurate (which is sometimes a pet peeve), but I guess on face value I have to say I still enjoy them.

You are so right about the Austen adaptations. After reading her books I'd watch all the adaptations of it because like you said each one brings something different to the mix and it's really interesting to see the story in different ways.
My favorite Pride & Prejudice will forever be with Colin Firth as Darcy

I believe I would have to go with Roald Dahl's book Matilda. I also liked The Witches by the same author.

One of my favourites is Fight Club. The cast really nailed it, especially Ed Norton. He was great! When he beat himself up in his bosses office; that was just the greatest. More recently, I enjoyed Life of Pi. I think anyone would have been hard pressed to translate the beauty of that book to film, but it was a pretty decent adaptation. I cried, but not as much as when I read the book.

The Book Thief was a good adaptation, I thought as well! Of course there are the Harry Potter films, haha. And I also agree with Life of Pi!

I like some of the Jane Eyre adaptations as well. I thought the Book Thief was a good one too. My favourite would probably be the Harry Potter series, but that's to be expected, is it not?

I loved The perks of being a wallflower and the LOTR movies. They were as close to the books as possible.

The Swedish versions of book adaptations are always amazing. Dragon Tattoo was a good example, and I think that Let the Right One In was one as well (??) but I haven't read the book so I don't know how well it was done. I assume well though, as I have never heard any complaints about it.
I personally liked the adaptation of Sarah Dessen's book "Someone Like You." The movie had a different title (which isn't coming to mind now, so feel free to chime in if you know it) but was just as good and made me cry just like the book...
