Terry Goodkind's series The Sword of Truth (or TV adaption The Legend of the Seeker) has some heavy material that it addresses.
A seventeen book epic fantasy series. The protagonists that the books follows are Richard Cypher (a young man that finds his destiny and path are longer than he anticipated being a farmer boy), Kahlan Amnell (a confessor, which you should read the series to find out our awesome she is), and Zeddicus Zu'l Zorander (a wizard with a name that's a bit of a mouthful).
Some individuals dislike when books come to life on screen because it doesn't live up to expectations. For me, seeing any of Terry Goodkind's words come to life was a school girl's fantasy. Especially when one of my favorite characters, Cara, whose a part of an elite group called Mord-Sith shows up in her full glory (the costume was exactly how I envisioned it). These women are warriors from D'Hara, who were created for the soul purpose to defend Lord Rahl. They have been conditioned, in the cruelest ways, to serve Lord Rahl in life or death. Their devotion is unnerving.
But I digress, the story itself follows Richard. Like any epic story, he goes from pauper to Lord but only through several horrible and daunting tasks. He discovers long lost family members, and that he has a large role in saving and keeping the kingdoms safe.
Films and books - I know this adaption of the series could never be compared to Lord of the Rings, but I want to open a dialogue/discussion of what we missed, what we wanted, and what we absolutely loved.
1. The series doesn't follow the complete epic sega - 17 books.
2. Who doesn't love seeing concepts of a book come to life.
3. The acting started off a little green, but it got better by the second season.
4. Mord Siths... I might have dressed up as one for a comic con event and met actor, Craig Parker, who played Darken Rahl. The fandom maybe smaller, but Craig Parker recognized my costume from across the con. He gave me a big hug and a kiss on the cheek. Perhaps I went out of character for a brief moment.
I urge people to read, watch movies, experience life and go out and meet other people who share the same interests, and passions. When I read I get to escape and experience someone else's personality, and when I dress up and go to comic con, I get to live that character for a few hours, or few days. If you allow it, reading can broaden your mind, and awaken a creative soul you never knew existed.
