I am currently reading Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier and I am about half way through it. I checked online and found a film adaptation of the book on You Tube which appears to be the story told in its entirety. The film is absolutely faithful to the book even to the smallest detail. The acting is exceptionally good. It is so rare to find an adaptation that has not been mangled that I thought I would share this with you guys. I stopped watching at the point I am currently at in the book but I plan on watching the entire thing when I have finished the book.

The story, I have determined thus far, is somewhat reminiscent of Pride and Prejudice so if you like that story I think you would like Rebecca though it is far more serious - perhaps the better word would be "darker" than P&P. But the opening banter between Mr. de Winter and Mrs. van Hopper in episode1, much like the banter between Mr. and Mrs. Bennet in P&P, is very comical. Mrs van Hopper is so dense that she doesn't realize that he is insulting her. *LOL*

If you are a lover of classics I do not think you will find a better film adaptation of a classic than this one, and if you make it past the fifth video (they pass quickly and load automatically) I think you will be totally hooked.

I have read both books and loved them! I haven't watched the movie of "Rebecca" though. Thank you for the link. I will take a look when I have some free time.

I have Rebecca and I was just thinking about starting it!

I preferred the Lawrence Olivier/Joan Fontaine version.
The Charles Dance/Emilia Fox version was good too and had brilliant music.

I, too, am reading 'Rebecca' right now for the first time. This time of year, I love a good horror with Halloween around the corner and when I searched for the best horror books, for some reason 'Rebecca' popped up. I am at the part where the newlyweds are just returning to Manderly after leaving Monte Carlo. I kind of get the feeling that this is not going to be much of a "horror." I am really enjoying Ms. Dumaurier's writing, though. Her writing come across as very descriptive and fragrant, if you will. And no, I am not hallucinating various aromas while reading it, I just really like the way she writes how the narrator is feeling and the language she uses. The first word that comes to mind is fragrant. I will continue reading it in the hopes that there is, perhaps, something close to horrifying in the ensuing pages.

Will someone please tell me with no spoilers if it does get at least creepy? Thanks!!

Sorry to disappoint, but it is not a horror story. It does get a bit creepy though.

Oh, do check out Hitchcock's version! It's one of the best movies he ever made. It stars Joan Fontaine and Laurence Olivier and they's both wonderful in it.

I would say that I think I'm fine with both. It's hard for me to decide what's best with things like this sometimes, and I guess I just don't mind, as long as it's good.

I absolutely loved the book, but saw on link to Pride and Prejudie, whatsoever. Think they belong to entirely different genres. I haven't watched the movie version yet, though. Thank you for the link. Will be watching it.

I have a friend named Rebecca who recommended this to me, I'm really excited for it! I've heard so many good things.
